Who said that the metalheads do not deal with other genres? Probably all fans!
The fact that creativity does not accept labels and categories is difficult for fans of one genre to understand.
Inspiration, on the other hand, knows no bounds, and especially in music, artists have the opportunity to alternate.
Musicians who are open-minded and full of ideas, dare, and do something different!
The interesting thing here is that they do it very well!!!
Let’s take a look at some of them.
Michael Shuman
Queen of the Stone Age bassist, Michael Shuman, literally went to the other side.
He created a pop trio the Mini Mansions.
Formed in 2009, when Queens of the Stone Age members decided to take a break.
They have already released two albums, with melodies between Indie pop, psychedelic pop, and glam rock.
In July 2019, their third album was released, entitled: “Guy Walks Into a Bar …“.
Karl Sanders
The guitarist and vocalist of Nile‘s technical death metal band have always been experimenting with world music.
On 26 October 2004, he released his first solo album, “Saurian Meditation”.
An album with melodies influenced by the musical culture of the Middle East and Africa.
Folk, ambient, and post-rock music on an LP extremely quiet, unlike what we knew!
Although he lost many of his death metal fans, the result was interesting.
Alex Skolnick
Being one of the original members of the thrash metal band Testament, Alex Skolnick impresses us with a different career.
The guitarist, though playing an important role in the development of thrash, now deals with Jazz music!
Yes, you read well! With Jazz, and he is very good at it!
He has created several jazz and experimental ensembles such as Exhibit-A and Skol
Patrol, before setting up The Alex Skolnick Trio.
Their latest album was released in 2018, entitled: “Conundrum“.
Leo Smee
Leo Smee, bassist of the British “titans” of doom, Cathedral, for years experimented with his brother on synths music.
In 2000, however, his experiments led him to create the Chrome Hoof.
And here things are not just surprising but impressive!
Chrome Hoof or Hooof!, is a kind of “everything”.
The orchestra, now, includes melodies from: Metal, electro, Psychedelic, Baroque, Disco, Funk, Jazz, Progressive, Futuristic, and chamber music!
In 2014, however, he joined With The Dead, returning to “darker” tunes.
Adam “Nergal” Darski
Behemoth is probably one of the world’s most known and loved death metal bands!
But who would have expected their singer Adam “Nergal” Darski to write Country, Blues, and Folk melodies?
I imagine no one!
And yet his side project, Me And That Man, is one of the most interesting bands of our time.
Nergal started the project with John Porter and released their first album on March 24, 2017.
Their latest album “New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1”, was released a few months ago.
Jonathan Davis
Jonathan Davis founder and voice of the biggest nu-metal bands of all time, Korn, pleasantly surprises us!
In 2018, he released his solo album “Black Labyrinth“, which has nothing to do with Korn!
It’s an album that moves around melodies of alternative rock, industrial, and world music!
His artistic intelligence is proven throughout the album as he uses musical instruments from all over the world!
Of course, there are others, who in time will try to present them, even if they did not “get away” too much!
