From the time of the original and raw Rock “n” Roll, the main, intangible axis was that it dared.
To start with, it dared to clash with the musically established and easily digestible songs of the time.
Later, as it grew older, Rock’s musicians became more willing to explore more, deceptively, musical paths.
Either with the musical composition or with the lyrical part of a song.
Through this music, many taboo subjects were demolished.
And it certainly didn’t hesitate to flirt with madness, its sources and its consequences.
Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden is a landmark band for Heavy Metal, but mostly, pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
The themes of their songs vary, but they lack everything considered to be a standard.
“Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” (1988), their seventh album, may not be one of the most pioneering of its kind or even one of their own…
But each of their works is another foundation in the construction of hard music.
One of their biggest hits is “Can I Play with Madness“.
The creation of Adrian Smith, Bruce Dickinson, and Steve Harris, speaks in its lyrical part about a young man who is tormented by visions.
He is probably the father of his seventh son, who is trying to discover the future through a crystal ball.
He wants to get in touch with an old prophet and he will help him in his search.
The prophet tries to acquaint him with his visions, but the hero, fearing madness, does not follow his advice.
Something that makes them angry with each other …
The video clip of the song definitely contributed to its success.
Directed by Tintern Abbey and Chislehurst Caves and starring Graham Chapman, in his latest appearance.
In his latest appearance, Chapman plays a “bitter” art instructor who catches a student painting Eddie.
After throwing his painting at him, he also takes the metal magazine that the student had in his pocket and of course he had the Iron Maiden mascot as a cover.
Browsing the magazine he falls into a hatch and his adventure begins…
Until he meets an animated version of Eddie, who locks him in a refrigerator.
