(ή country punk)
Simplicity is a virtue that can survive in any environment.
How it sounds
As a country, folk, and blues in punk cover with lyrics so shallow that it does not even wet the ankle.
Like the Rednecks who discovered The Clash or like hillbilly meeting punk.
Why listen to it
It is sparkling, fresh, simple, and easy to digest.
Suitable for parties and generally for a happy atmosphere.
Why not
Lyrically, it only talks about chicks and cars like a teenage American villager.
And basically, its musical motifs are very poor and repetitive.
Where we meet it
The United Kingdom and the United States, more specifically in Southern California
When did it start
The late 1970s and early 1980s
Who are the pioneers
The versatile T. Tex Edwards with his then-band The Nervebreakers opened punk giants at concerts.
Their success “My Girlfriend is a Rock”, is one of the cornerstones of the genre.
Also, Rosie Flores when she played with Rosie and the Screamers self-proclaimed Cowpunk band.
Even bands like “X”, The Dils, and Rank and File, played the genre before it was even named.
You have to listen
Screamin’ Sirens, the Blasters, Meat Puppets, The Beat Farmers, The Del-Lords, Violent Femmes, The Long Ryders, Vandoliers.
Days of glory
Like punk rock, this as a genre has its successes at regular intervals, but separately as musicians not as a musical current.
Red card
With a few exceptions, bands do not stay in this sound. A shallow verse in contrast to punk culture.
What is it confused with
With alt-country, Folk punk, garage rock, psychobilly, punk blues, punk rock
How do you describe it to the irrelevant
Some guys in white T-shirts play punk and talk about chicks and cars, like rednecks from deep America,
– I did not understand.
– Rural punk!
