Simplicity is the pinnacle of virtue, but also the most difficult.
How it sounds
Dirty, stylized, wild rock, with touches of rock n roll and Rhythm and blues, as if it were her most archetypal expression.
Why listen to it
For its authenticity, the pure “dirt”, for its simplicity, and why rock is heard with a beer in hand
Because it is trapped in the same patterns and there is no possibility of evolution.
Where we meet it
The United Kingdom, mainly in London and Essex
When did it start
In the ’70s
Who are the pioneers
Eggs over Easy are undoubtedly the founders of the genre.
When the American country rock, blues band visited London in 1971, it had the support of the American Embassy to play in English universities.
Learned to play in the bars of their homeland, they played in a pub together with another band.
Next to their house, at 10 Alma Street in Kentish Town, there was a pub called Tally Ho, but it strictly played only jazz.
The band convinces the owner for two appearances, on May 3 and May 13, 1971. There is panic in the store and a new genre is born.
You have to listen
Dr. Feelgood, Kilburn and the High Roads, Ducks Deluxe, Kokomo, Clancy, Cado Belle, The Kursaal Flyers, Chilli Willi & the Red Hot Peppers
Days of glory
Once in a pub somewhere outside London, all 23 beer barrels ran out …
All the whiskey and only rum left half a bottle of gin, a mint liqueur, and a little cherry.
Nobody remembers the band, neither the place nor the day
Like all “anti” musical currents, they cease to exist when the genre with which it is confronted fades, and the reason for its existence stops.
So when the polished progressive rock and the glamorous glam rock faded, the dirty Pub rock stopped.
What is it confused with
With country rock, punk rock, mod revival. Basically, after a few beers, it is not confused with anything else.
How do you describe it to an irrelevant person
Let’s go for a beer in a rock bar, a band is playing, let me explain everything to you while drinking beer.
