There are some places that, although rough, still bring out the softest notes.
How it sounds
Like Epic Metal together with Folk Metal and at the same time bagpipes and violins are heard.
Like traditional Irish music, which is not danced but you can do very good neck exercises.
Why listen to it
It is melodic, but at the same time hard, like a good Irish Whiskey.
You find unknown names, which are musical diamonds, and generally, in this genre, you can find very good bands by chance …
With an efficiency that touches that of the African wild dog.
Enough with the Irish, we have made our liver rubber. Well… put a penultimate one and play a little more!
Where we meet it
When did it start
Who are the pioneers
The origin of Celtic Metal is traced back to 1990 with the song “The Widdershins Jig” by the English Skyclad.
This song greatly influenced the then young Keith Fay who had formed a Black Metal band inspired by Tolkien called Minas Tirith.
Inspired by the music of Skyclad and Horslips, Keith Fay began to combine Black Metal with Irish folk music.
He then formed Cruachan and released a demo recording in 1993.
Their debut album “Tuatha Na Gael” was released in 1995 and since then they have been recognized as pioneers, as they developed Folk Metal.
With the use of melodies from Celtic music and lyrics from Celtic mythology, their style was recognized as what we now call Celtic Metal.
Primordial and Waylander are also considered pioneers of the genre.
YOU MUST listen
Eluveitie, Ithilien, Mägo de Oz, Suidakra, Leah, Skiltron, Geasa, Tuatha de Danann, Celtachor, Aedy, Aeron’s Wake, Aeterna, An Norvys, Duir.
Days of glory
It has generally had a stable audience since the ’00s and the success of some bands constantly highlights the genre, as well as its consistent good quality.
It is often repeated as if you are drinking the same whiskey in the same glass, but with new ice cubes.
What is it confused with
With Irish Metal, Folk Metal.
How do you describe it to an irrelevant
Something Celtic, but for metalheads!
