In the history of species evolution, self-recognition plays a huge role.
It is widely accepted, after all, that primates are the ones who can identify themselves.
In fact, of course, what they recognize is simply their image.
However, this alone is a very important sign of intelligence.
As a means for this extremely important recognition is the… mirror.
And it is no coincidence that the myths associated with it are many in all cultures.
Even its metaphorical meaning is very important in philosophy, either as a narcissistic object or as a door to the human soul.
Proving, at the same time, how important it is to look at ourselves, rather than just observing others.
The inner strength…
The Nu Metal (wandering in Alternative, Crossover, Hardcore) quartet of Spitback from Larissa, obviously had this in mind when writing the lyrics of “Face Down“.
Panos S., talks to us about their song, reveals the importance of his lyrical part.
“The message we want to get to the public with this song has to do with the inner strength of man.
And his ability to cope with the daily difficulties he faces with himself.
In this way, we want to emphasize the need of each individual to face himself and to be able to resolve any issues that pass so as to do good first to himself and then to the whole.”
Basically, nothing can illuminate unless it is illuminated first.
The composition…
The singer also mentions the basic elements of the composition:
“The music of the song has been written by the guitarist of the band George Vlachava in collaboration with the rest of the band.
The lyrics of the song were written by me.
It will be on the band’s second album called “War inside my head” which will be released at the end of 2020.
We wanted to write a song that is short in duration, which at the same time can give a lot of things to the listener.
Musically and lyrically, but mainly without tiring the listener“, Panos continues to reveal the purpose of creating the song.
The power of a song …
During the creation of the song, anger and frustration were the most intense emotions they had.
Corrosion is not only mental, it is also found in music, especially if a song is played many times.
However, the band’s voice has a different view on this corrosion:
“I think it is getting stronger and stronger!
Especially when you interpret it live and have the opportunity to share it with people who can be part of its history as well as the reason for its existence.”
Singing, like art in general, most of the time fulfills the task of a Socratic fly.
After all, Rock / Metal is known for awakening consciences, for some, this is a burden and for others, it is a duty…
“We believe that any art form has something to offer in its own way.
Each act has to offer something different and that is the beauty of the case as everyone can get different things from each cycle.
A particular art form cannot present everything about it, and everyone advocates what they consider closest to themselves in order to better project it outwards.
The answer to this is that when an art form has the power to offer something to the world it has achieved its purpose, whoever it is.
There is no burden or duty behind an artist’s need to externalize what he feels.
Music is freedom“, the singer concludes.
Perhaps the value with notes consists in the ears that hear it, just as words have value only in the hearts that have heard them.
In short, the transmitter without the receiver does not benefit anyone.
So, if we do not listen to ourselves first, we can hardly be awakened by a reason unknown to us.
