When a tree grows, there is no metaphysical plan behind it.
It is the will of the seed to be transformed into a seedling, along with an almost infinite set of external conditions, which will allow it to grow.
However, even the word luck is overstepped and simply indicates a complete ignorance of external or internal conditions.
The denser the forest, the greater the need for a seed to complete its course.
Something similar happens in the dense forest of creating new bands in the Rock / Metal scene.
Those who have the possibility and ability to stand out from the beginning, are few.
One of them, however, is the South Londoners Green Lung.
There are many who, wanting to look like their idols, start playing a musical instrument.
Finding other like-minded people is simply a consequence of musical worship.
When they decide to play together, the band is ready and they only thing missing was the… name!
Green Lung
In the case of Green Lung, the name selection process had some suspense.
Among the names that fell on the table were:
- Blue Cheer: This name sounded pretty stoner and had the same number of letters as Green Lung.
- Black Flag: It was another name being discussed.
The names came from song lyrics by Type o Negative and specifically from the album “World Coming Down“.
Eventually, they ended up in Green Lung, from the song “Lung“.
They themselves lived in an area of London with a large urban spread, so the name seemed appropriate to them.
Their name “Green Lung“, meaning a natural park in an urban area that aims to replenish oxygen.
The beginning…
The first songs they wrote were quite woody.
With a closer look, we can see that they were talking about forests and/or that their riffs were very “dense“.
Having these as a basis, they started recording, so in the same year, they have their first demo.
“Green Man Rising” did not cause a stir, but it did provide them with some live shows and interest from record labels.
Their first live performance took place at an all-day festival “Stone Frequency” held at “The Black Heart” in London.
The very strong first year of their existence put them in a more introverted course in the following year.
The release of the single “Lady Lucifer” initially and later the EP “Free the Witch“, secured them British tour for them.
And then 2019 finds them with a complete album, “Woodland Rites” by Svart Records.
Their debut has more than positive media acceptance.
The result was that they were selected by the Guardian to include their song in “Track of the Day“.
Also, the choice of “BBC Radio 1” to play one of their songs song, is an important moment for the band.
Later, their “strange” aura was introduced to Greece through the “Street Mode Festival” in Thessaloniki.
The audience welcomed them with great surprise and the response was immediate and extremely positive.
Their lyrics…
The themes of their lyrics are inspired by simple myths and even urban myths.
The choice of their theme ranks them in the Occult Rock category, although they themselves add the term Nature Metal.
However, their sound is quite Stoner and even Doom, but it is not uncommon for them to flirt intensely with the most glorious days of Psychedelic rock.
The strong and “dense” riffs are harmoniously accompanied by keys, going their music to the ’70s.
Their next work will definitely show what their future may hold.
So far, they have caught the attention of both Stoner’s friends and those who love older and purer times of Rock’s .
