(Also known as sassy screamo, sasscore, sassgrind or dancey screamo)
The need to differentiate from a set is as strong as belonging to that set itself.
How it sounds
Like some guys who made a punk band, just to flirt* with different people.
With the instruments belonging to the drummer, who also arranges what the others will play.
Basically like punk with abuse of blast beats, with chaotic guitars and abrupt closing of songs along with some pop synthesizers.
* we had to say it politely
Why listen to it
Because you are tired of the raw meat of hardcore & metal and you want a dessert to close.
Generally, because it is a relatively digestible sound.
Why not
Because it sounds too much for punk hardcore, but it is not pop enough for softer tastes.
And because the many blast beats irritate you
Where we meet it
Somewhere in California, probably!
When did it start
Late ’90s early‘ 00s
Who are the pioneers
The Blood Brothers, Q and Not U, Black Eyes, The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower started the genre.
Along with the rise of screamo, but more as a reaction to it.
You have to listen
These Arms Are Snakes, An Albatross, XBXRX, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Orchid, Milemarker, SeeYouSpaceCowboy
Days of glory
In the early ‘00s, but again locally limited species and more like underground.
Red card
Another genre created as a reaction to another, confusing other genres of music with plenty of randomnesses.
And with that, it was trying to say something, but it did not know what exactly.
They are generally only for well-educated teenagers, who want to make a revolution, but do not know what to revolt about.
What is it confused with
With punk, hardcore and scream, but basically on its own, the genre gets confused
How do you describe it to an irrelevant
Imagine teenagers playing in the garage of their home on the outskirts of a big city in California.
While at the same time trying to imitate really punk bands, but with much more expensive instruments.
Where the garage belongs to the drummer’s dad, who recently bought him another new drum set.
