The Athenians “Fall Of Order” will represent Greece on “Wacken Open Air Festival 2019”.
They are a really interesting metal band with a very bright and promising future.
Seeing their live performance at An Club on 22nd April, it was made very clear why they were the ones chosen to go to Wacken, by winning the competition between six bands.
A band full of energy and power, pure metal, and a live show which can’t be easily forgotten.
Concerning their upcoming show on Wacken, we spoke with the band’s guitarist George Stamkos.
Wacken Open Air
On April 22nd, you managed to win the “Wacken Metal Battle” and represent Greece at Wacken Open Air. What does your participation to the festival mean to you?
We are very happy and excited to represent the Greek metal scene of our kind to the biggest event of the world.
And for the fact that, for the first time, we will have the opportunity to perform in front of such a large audience.
We have to thank Loud Sound for giving us this opportunity.
What are your expectations after Wacken Open Air?
There are plans for some new material that, not only will it continue from where “Ascension” left off but will overcome it.
This is the purpose of the musical evolution of each artist/band, to push their limits continuously.
Have you thought about how you will present your songs on the scene of the Wacken Festival? We’ve seen you live to implement a “theatricality,” with intro and outro. Are you thinking of something similar there as well?
This is the first time we will perform abroad, especially on such a multinational scene, which has a gigantic history behind it. Having said that, everything is under review so far.
Surely the stage presence is the key to any band that wants to move on to bigger festivals and we as Fall Of Order, we will activate this mechanism, now more than ever.
Our friends on W.O.A. should be prepared for a Greek band-ready as ever, a band whose stage presence will remember and won’t be easy to overcome.
“We will see you all on August on the WET STAGE at W.O.A., representing our country and our music”
George Stamkos
Fall Of Order
Fall Of Order is a band founded in Athens in 2015, a band that can’t be easily categorized in terms of genre.
Besides, as they have said, they are a “modern metal with classic influences”, band.
On their career so far they have released an EP titled “Ascension”, in June 2018.
They have appeared live with Thy Art Is Murder, Karma Violens, and Foray Between Ocean among others.
It is time to let George Stamkos talk to us about the band…
What do you consider your best and worst moments so far?
There was not really a bad time for Fall Of Order because our course so far has been steadily upward.
By actively starting our first live appearances, in 2017, up to now we are attending an even more important event time after time.
Everything, of course, always happens due to the support of the organizers, but also the fans that give us the energy to continue to create music.
How difficult do you consider it to be for a band to be able to project its creations? What do you need to continue your music?
Spreading the work of an artist or a band is very easy nowadays.
We are lucky to be able to publish our music on online platforms and social media that help spread the work of all artists, all around the world.
Music can now travel really fast, really far, more than ever before.
This way makes it easier for something real with its own identity, to exert influence and to receive feedback.
How easy is it for a band to create their music and at the same time promote themselves?
How easy or difficult it is to create music is something completely subjective.
We do not encounter obstacles in the composition of our music as we have our own aesthetics that determine us.
However, it is equally important for a band to have a musical advancement during their career as it is something that helps preserve the band’s character.
Nowadays it could be easily mixed up or even misinterpreted as a different metal genre than what it really is or represents.
What is the source of inspiration for your songs? How easily are they created?
We draw inspiration from those who have established their mark on the extreme and hard sound.
Synthetically, we are a modern band that always keeps a bit of history, of the extreme music in particular.
Our eyes are set to the future but without forgetting or neglecting our influences from the past.
Some bands that have influenced us are The Haunted, At The Gates, and Lamb of God.
Lyrically, our inspiration comes from the current events of our time. It’s something metal music has always done.
It’s been not only about personal issues but also about worldwide events of importance and gravity to all humans.
What stimulated you to start creating your own music? How did you decide and choose metal music and not another genre?
Music is our basic way of expression and is, undoubtedly, considered a global language.
Me and Kostas (lead guitars) have been in music bands from a very early age.
This has led him to propose to work together and write our own music and, therefore, create a modern band which would allow us to work on our music professionally.
Have you ever written a song that’s out of your genre as a band? If so, would you ever release it or is it one of those creations that the artists keep only for themselves?
We have plans to create some songs really special for our band’s next steps musically, which will raise the expectations even higher in terms of songs composition.
We have no intention of getting out of character, instead, we want to get even stronger.
The Greek fans are generally seen as somewhat “stuck” with foreign bands, considering them in some ways “better”. Have you ever felt this way?
The Greek metal scene is on the rise and during recent years it has been showing marvelous new bands from cities all over the country.
In the contest where we participated, we played our music next to some amazing bands that will keep the attention of the audience in the years to come.
The Greek audience should start giving opportunities to new bands to show what they can do and each of us should support the bands that we prefer.
The whole scene would not exist without the public’s support. It may sound cliché but it can’t be truer.
Everything is possible with the fans’ support.
Even we are primarily fans and then musicians. It’s a circle that gives music the ability to evolve and travel around the world.
What are your goals for the coming years and what will be the key to help you achieve them?
Our goal is to continue to create the music we love and to participate in even bigger musical events.
Our medium for all this is the support of the public but at the same time to keep spreading our music and making our songs heard.
“There are great things ahead of us in the future and for this we have to thank for the fans and the public that supports us and believes in us.”
George Stamkos
Which of your songs would you dedicate to your audience and why?
We want to deliver the 4th track of “Ascension”, titled “Wrath Of The Serpent” because it is more up-to-date than ever and the answer is hidden in its lyrics.
STAY TRUE
STAY METAL
And a closing message to both musicians and fans!
“Follow your dreams, believe in your possibilities and stay honest in your compositions, express yourself freely and support the bands you love because it is the only way to continue their work.”
