As frightening as may death seem, it is at the same time fascinating!
How it sounds
Like hell itself! That is, Death metal! It is a reference point for other genres anyway and is essentially the basis of extreme sound.
Why listen to it
Because it continues to evolve after three decades!
Why not
Because you are a fan of the classic Rock or Metal sound and you do not want to bother your ears with growl vocals… but also because death scares you.
Where we meet it
In the USA.
When did it start
In the mid-’80s.
Who are the pioneers
A first “official” use of the term is found on the album “Seven Churches” by Possessed in 1985 and specifically with the song “Death Metal”.
We have another reference to the term from the magazine “Death Metal” by Thomas Fischer and Martin Ain by Hellhammer and Celtic Frost.
The name was later given to the 1984 “Death Metal” collection released by Noise Records.
Another version is that the term comes from the Death demo of 1984, called “Death by Metal”.
Allmusic’s Eduardo Rivadavia credits Schuldiner with being the “Father of Death Metal”.
It is also worth noting that Slayer‘s album “Reign in Blood” (1986) inspired the entire Death Metal scene.
You must listen
Macabre, Master, Massacre, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Post Mortem, Greenwitch, Godless, Altered Dead, Hand Of Kalliach, Hath, Barús, Theocodontion, All Consumed, Desolate Shrine, Dark Redeemer, Corpus Calvary, Skeletal, and many more.
Days of glory
Death metal’s popularity peaked in 1992-1993, with bands such as Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse enjoying commercial success.
However, the genre as a whole never went mainstream.
Nevertheless, the constant evolution of the genre and mixing with other, seemingly opposite genres, has an audience that may not be related to Metal.
It always has a steady core of listeners.
Red card
The growing popularity of the genre is partly due to the strong competition between Norwegian Black Metal and Swedish Death Metal scenes.
Darkthrone’s Fenriz typically notes that Norwegian Black Metal musicians had “puffed up the entire Death Metal scene” at the time.
What is it confused with
With Thrash metal, Black Metal, Goregrind, Deathrash, Blackened Death Metal and generally with Extreme Metal
How do you describe it to an irrelevant
What every religious and irrelevant to Metal imagines.
