The history of civilization is marked by historical events, peace conditions, and the beginning of wars.
On the other hand, the history of Rock ‘N’ Roll is marked by only one thing… The live performances!
One such station was the release of Doors‘ first and self-titled album in 1967.
Apart from his own compositions, there were also covers!
Morrison’s brilliance and Ray Manzarek’s unique playing gave these songs a completely different color.
With this combination of talents, they managed to connect the classic Rhythm ‘N’ Blues with Rock.
One of the three covers on the album is “Back Door Man“.
Willie Dixon’s 1961 creation was first released as the second side of a Howlin’ Wolf single, “Wang Dang Doodle”.
But before it reached the ears of the legendary band, it went through a lot of covers.
One was by John Hammond Jr. and that’s what Robby Krieger heard, and suggested to the band that they remake it.
The lyrics
The lyrical part may concern a part of the creator’s life.
“Back Door Man” was a regular visitor to a house, probably an iceman or an insurer or any salesman.
The bottom line is that this gentleman had an affair with the wife of an honest (?) man who worked to provide comfort to the cunning wife.
She always had the back door open, so if the husband comes through the front, the lover can easily escape.
The lyrics were “teased” a bit by the Doors, who decided to remove a part of them.
The song was not included in the setlist of songs played by the Doors in their first live performances.
While performing this song in New Haven, Connecticut on December 9, 1967, Morrison showed off his naked body.
This was the reason for him to become the first musician to be arrested on stage!
After the release of their first album, Doors, chose to open their shows with this song!
