(also known as tech-death)
Technique does not make art, but it helps it.
How it sounds
It’s as if a death metal band hired a new guitarist, who was playing jazz fusion!
And on the ground that he was not making a penny, he decided to take up death metal to make money (hahahahahahahaha) and continue his studies in Jazz for another 15 years.
Basically, death metal is much more complicated, even more, confused with highly educated musicians.
It is closer to progressive and avant-garde metal than to death.
Why listen to it
To admire musicians playing superbly!
Why not
Because we can never understand what the fuck they are playing!
Where we meet it
USA, Canada, and Europe in general
When did it start
The early 1990s
Who are the pioneers
The Atheists laid the foundations of the genre with their debut album, “Piece of Time” in 1990.
Also, the New Yorkers Suffocation with their debut album “Effigy of the Forgotten” a year later.
In the same year, Pestilence released their third album “Testimony of the Ancients” and Death released their fourth album “Human”, closing the quartet of the main pillars of the genre.
You have to listen
Cynic, Nocturnus, Archspire, Necrophagist, Gorguts, Aeon, Beneath the Massacre, Dying Fetus, Malignancy, Man Must Die, Origin, Psycroptic, Pyrrhon, Revocation, Soreption, Wormed
Days of glory
Early 90’s, when they were already known death metal bands, others started flirting with the genre.
At the same time, it is a genre that has a stable and loyal audience, as a result of which new remarkable bands are constantly coming out.
Red card
Apart from the fact that it is addressed to very “trained” ears, it is often lost in its complexity and musicians sometimes figure out their abilities.
What is it confused with
Death metal, progressive metal, avant-garde metal, mathcore, melodic death metal, and djent.
How do you describe it to an irrelevant
Think of symphony-level musicians playing something that you and your mother do not consider as music!
