(or for short RIO)
Just as water can break even the hardest rock, so notes can cross the tallest wall.
How it sounds
Alive with the fist raised.
It is essentially a movement that played Experimental rock and organized concerts to protest against the omnipotence of record companies.
Why listen to it
To live a little history, to live the myth of a Don Quixote of rock in some way.
And to chase some windmills with our middle finger or our fist raised.
Why not
Because windmills are always stronger than Don Quixote
Where we meet it
Mainly in Europe. The Rock in Opposition festival was held in London
When did it start
The late 70s
Who are the pioneers
It actually started with Henry Cow‘s manager Nick Hobbs when Virgin Records canceled the band’s contract due to low sales.
He then decided to organize a British tour with bands from other countries, which would accompany his own under the flag Rock in Opposition.
With them were Stormy Six (from Italy), Samla Mammas Manna (from Sweden), Univers Zero (from Belgium) and Etron Fou Leloublan (From France).
The first (and only) concert took place on March 12, 1978, at the New London Theater.
You have to listen
Art Zoyd, Art Bears, Aksak Maboul
Days of glory
Okay, they made a resounding move at the time, that is, only the year the festival took place, but so far.
An idea that evaporated like dust outside the windmills with a little south wind.
The following year some festivals were organized, under the same logo, in some cities of Europe, but that was all.
Red card
An idea only stands when it lasts.
And ideas are action and not reaction and this movement was just a reaction.
What is it confused with
With Avant-prog and Canterbury scene
How do you describe it to an irrelevant
Some guys who played complicated sound and wore bell-bottoms wanted to organize some festivals on their own …
They did not succeed in the end …
