One of the oldest professions, even if stereotypically speaking, is that of a prostitute.
Of course, a more careful look and with a semantic mood could include that of the bard and consequently the musician.
Although both professions have prevented wars, they have no respect for the average person.
Music in the Western world, at least, was an almost exclusively male affair.
Like the “intercourse for a fee“, is almost feminine.
But the opposite sex has always been fascinated.
Women loved musicians, but men also preferred prostitutes, either with guilt syndromes or clearly.
Such, almost generalized, behavior evokes envy, which then awakens even the darkest instincts, and in the face of them, disdain seems simply like salvation.
The power of sex, but also of the harmonious execution of sounds, creates the desire to manipulate those who are either thirsty for power or already have it.
In essence, both “intercourse for a fee” and music can awaken and dominate.
Such a “tool” is always desired by people, in whom morality has no influence on their way of thinking, but also on their way of acting.
Of course, when we talk about morality, we mean its ancient meaning and not the puritanical one.
Rock first and later metal changed things a lot in music.
They expressed in every way their opposition to the manipulation of power and gave their music generously.
And love, now, was part of pleasure and enjoyment and not a way of forced reproduction and a means of power.
In fact, the 1970 train tour was a focal point in the history of rock, while showing its pure intentions.
Intercourse for a fee
Something that can so easily seduce crowds can hardly remain pure.
Or, for example, a very beautiful woman, defenseless and without laws to protect her, will hardly escape from the hands of a promoter.
No matter how much we disagree and criticize it, it is happening in the western world as well.
In the same way, music became “intercourse for a fee” once again.
At the same time that companies are getting richer, musicians are dying of drugs and hard substances are the first step in this seduction.
However, the key ingredient to the success of an “intercourse for a fee” is that this “art” does not seem to be used even today.
An important part of it is the practice of Payola, where its promoter is, on the one hand, the record label and on the other hand some greedy music producers.
Needless to say, the legitimacy of this tactic is well known.
As for the quality of the music, which is illegally displayed, it is only suitable for brainwashing.
And this is what the listener/buyer wants to get bored of quickly, in order to look for a new one.
Of course, the musician has to be rewarded for what he does and for what he is by nature.
A man who knows how to handle a musical instrument is not at the same time an artist, not even a musician!
He is an aspiring lover and an easy “victim”.
Some Scandinavian countries honor their musicians after their global recognition, with a steady allowance to be committed to what they do and to enrich the country’s cultural wealth.
In Greece, this all sounds like a well-told joke.
Music = What the customer wants?
The musician’s reward, however, should be the result of his creation and not of some blackmail, either social (fashion) or sponsor.
One can easily see that this is not the case, not only in music but also in art in general.
Music as a product is almost universally the result of customer demand.
The musician is forced to write “music”, which is requested by the already manipulated audience, like a prostitute who just goes with clients, who are never her choice.
Of course, the bright exceptions simply confirm the dark rule.
Rock itself has not only managed to break this chain for the time being, but it has contributed greatly to sexual liberation.
Even in religious (liberation), he put several “stones”, so that more freely one can have one’s own personal approach to the divine.
As is well known, “intercourse for a fee” has to do primarily with a lack of freedom and not with sexual desire.
Religious and, consequently, social oppression also has the effect of “intercourse for a fee.”
Economic hardship is also a result of this oppression.
It has been observed that in times of economic downturn, the music that the majority listens to is oversimplified and cheaper.
Of course, we will not talk about the Scandinavian countries, where metal/rock has almost a basic character in the cultural events of these countries.
Within a decade, rock succumbed to the demands and money of the music industry, which was largely due to it.
The need for expression was reduced to a need for fame and money.
And it always operated according to the dictates of a dictatorship, but also of a manipulative majority
Subordinate music?
The maturity of a society and its critical ability can prevent this phenomenon so that it is an exception and not the rule.
One more skeptic might add that it is not just music that is subject to a regime, direct or indirect, “intercourse for a fee” but almost all areas of life.
I will not disagree with that, but I believe that music can be a lighthouse of creativity so that some future generations can see it.
But in order for music to have its own light, there must be ears to hear it.
Music education is as important as academic education.
The reason is that it refines the spirit, but also the soul, as an extension of our psychology.
This kindness also shows the way to love as a philosophical concept and more.
Something that seems difficult in a society learned in “I pay and I can ask for anything I want“.
Respect is about money and that is what happens all the time.
A country accustomed to songs by order does not cultivate respect for any kind of art.
And it is really sad that the spectacle of metal musicians, basically very capable, is forced to be sold out to the “bouzouki”.
In an already sold-out scene!
The advertisement, “money is in the public domain“, making a pun with the lottery, simply rewards it in the eyes of the majority.
The music may have left the palaces and been accessible to everyone, but its abuse is more widespread.
Musical freedom
Not all of its creations are liked by everyone, but music’s freedom can easily bring joy to everyone without exception.
The reward for its free expression, at the same time, rewards everyone who contributes to its freedom, but also to those who are patiently listening.
Its offer is invisible, but it can be made tangible in the medium term and certainly in the long run.
Its immediate exploitation throws its quality into an abyss.
There will be as many prostitutes as there are unpunished producers, but also deprived customers.
As long as misery plagues our societies unequally, the escape routes from it will have the sign “melodic intercourse for a fee“.
Let’s start improving the world through music and it will reward us richly…
